Who are the other 877 Patient Adherence Startups?

AllazoHealth – Behavior Prediction & Analysis

Large amounts of data that pharmaceutical businesses have associated with the patients’ lifestyles are very useful in trying to determine the patients’ future behavior and increase the chances of patients adhering to the medication treatment plans they are prescribed. Such an approach also guides a more successful and customized adherence intervention.

New York-based AllazoHealth leverages machine learning and complex data analytics methods to track and forecast patients’ behavior in order to make the adherence intervention and overall treatment more effective as well as to detect potential deviations of an individual from the medication schedule.

ScriptDrop – Rewards Systems

An incentivization system aimed to increase medication adherence is also a powerful tool to avoid the consequences of patients not sticking to their treatment plans.

ScriptDrop, a startup from the USA, combines a mobile-based subscription delivery system with a blockchain-based incentivization system that rewards patients with cryptocurrency tokens when they take their pills on time. Tokens can then be used to reduce their health insurance premiums or co-payments.

Popit – Smart Medication Packaging

As the pharmaceutical industry and its technologies develop, more and more businesses turn to smart packages for their drugs or pills to facilitate patient adherence control. Those include packs that track adherence, send reminders, use a customized design for easier access.

Finnish Popit has taken on a non-mainstream approach and has developed a clip that can be attached to any blister pack, making it “smart”. In reality, it means that using a number of sensors (sound, touch, movement), the device determines when an individual is taking a pill, reminding him/her to do so, and tracks medication adherence over time.

Medsync – Enhanced Consumer Experience

It is easier for a patient to stay on his or her medication when the drugs are easily available, delivered in time to one’s door, all without the hassle of dealing with insurance companies or other time-consuming tasks. The idea is to compel individuals to adhere to their pill treatment plans by ensuring their drug taking experience is as smooth as possible.

Canadian Medsync aims to boost medication adherence by doing exactly that. The startup offers medication synchronization services for pharmacies – a process of synchronizing a patient’s medication schedules to decrease the number of visits an individual should make to a pharmacy for the drugs pick up. They also help pharmacies process orders up to 7 days prior to the pickup in order to diminish waiting times and proactively alert patients when an upcoming refill is required.

CataliaHealth – Artificial Intelligence-Powered Intelligent Assistants

Another approach to securing medication adherence is through the use of AI-powered digital assistants. By making the technology and treatment management more personal, the adherence rate is increased.

San Francisco-based CataliaHealth and its Mabu adherence robot aim to provide personalized care to the patients with regular feedback collection, text reminders to take medication, appointment scheduling, and surveying among others.
