Wattio, a Spanish startup, offers a smart home system comprised of a series of wireless devices that collect data through smartphone apps. With this system, users can monitor the energy use of different home appliances and switch them off remotely. This feature also ensures safety in case someone has left the oven or iron on after leaving the house.
Sense – Home Energy Monitors
Home energy monitors are devices that monitor energy consumption and display energy costs in real-time. They receive data from electricity meters to show the amount of energy being used at any given moment. These devices can also determine the energy usage of individual appliances and generating personalized recommendations for energy efficiency. Sense, a US-based startup, develops a home energy monitor to provide people with information about their home’s energy consumption. Sense’s system allows users to track energy use over time and to set efficiency goals and monitor progress, as well as set device-level notifications and identify sources of energy waste.
EnOcean – Wireless Sensors
Wireless sensors are a flexible, convenient, and energy efficient alternative to conventional wired sensors. These sensors can be used to monitor environmental conditions such as temperature and to determine whether rooms are empty. German startup EnOcean produces self-powered wireless sensors for smart homes, such as occupancy sensors to adjust the temperature and turn off the lights when rooms are empty. Their other product is a room temperature sensor for minimal energy consumption and maximum comfort. EnOcean’s products are based on miniaturized energy converters, ultra-low-power electronics and robust radio technology in open standards.
CUJO AI – Cybersecurity
Malicious interventions of hackers into smart home systems with the aim of receiving access to all appliances and functions is a great threat for smart homeowners. Responding to this risk and increasing demand, startups develop solutions to protect smart home networks and all its connected devices from external attacks. US-based CUJO AI develops a smart firewall that protects a user’s connected home from hackers. CUJO AI platform’s solutions are delivered as a SaaS for all home network devices. It analyzes vast amounts of local network data using proprietary machine learning algorithms.
