Molekule – Photoelectrochemical Oxidation

Photoelectrochemical oxidation (PECO) is one of the newest technologies in air purification. It addresses air contamination issues by oxidizing and removing organic particles, especially indoor allergens. The technology captures and eliminates microparticles as small as 0.1 nanometers in size.

The US-based startup Molekule develops PECO air purifiers. These purifiers employ nanotechnology and the powerful chemistry of free radicals that reside on the filter surface. It demolishes contaminants, notably mold, bacteria, and viruses, at a molecular scale.

Oransi – High-Efficiency Particulate Air Purifiers

High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) purifiers absorb and filter out allergens, spores, pollen, dust, pet danders, and other indoor particles. The filters inside these purifiers have an extremely thin and well-knit fiber structure that purifies the air and circulates it back. As a result, they make the air breathable for people with allergies or asthma.

The US-based startup Oransi manufactures HEPA air purifiers and add-ons for residential and commercial uses. These purifiers tackle customers’ air quality concerns regarding allergies, specific dust, asthma, pets, mold, odors, and child-related issues. These add-ons include replacement filters, remote controls, whole-house bundles.

Air0 – Activated Carbon

Activated carbon purifiers eliminate smoke, odors from kitchens, cigarettes or pets, and gases such as radon, chlorine, and volatile organic compounds. They contain activated charcoal that attracts and adsorbs pollutants to the filter surface, allowing clean air to flow through.

Finnish startup Air0 develops proprietary air purification technology that captures particles of different sizes using a series of filters. Their activated carbon purifier combines the benefits of mechanical and electrical filtration and removes polluting gases. Unlike electrical filtration, their technology does not generate any ozone.

Wynd – Electrostatic Precipitators

Electrostatic precipitators (ESP) are a low-maintenance air purification alternative. They use an electrostatic charge to capture pollutants on internal plates. They are capable of removing dust, mold, smoke, and pollen and, thus, considerably improve the quality of indoor air.

The US-based startup Wynd produces portable air purifiers for personal use. Their design is based on fluid dynamics and uses ESP filters and antimicrobial silver stratum to eliminate indoor germs, allergens, and industrial pollution.

Teqoya – Ionic Filters

Just like electrostatic precipitators, ionic filters or air ionizers use negative ions to bind dust, pollen, microbes, and odors. However, ionizers do not collect dirt particles internally, but simply remove them from the immediate area and release them to the floor or other surfaces.

French startup Teqoya develops air ionizers for homes, offices, and large indoor spaces. Their patented technology uses the concept of ionic wind and does not generate any noise or ozone. It is also environmentally friendly as it uses very low power and doesn’t need any additional filters.
