TuSimple – Self-Driving Trucks

Self-driving trucks enable vehicles to drive long distances autonomously with the driver being ready to take over when necessary. These trucks can navigate long-distances, adjust the driving manner in accordance with weather conditions, and provide instant driving decisions without human interaction. The US startup TuSimple works on self-driving trucks that have a 1000-meter perception system and integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is capable of navigating long-distance highway trips and complex surface street driving. Their system enables self-driving vehicles to react quickly to various potentially dangerous road situations and thereby makes self-driving trucks safer.

Autobon – Trucking Assistance

Trucking assistance is essentially an AI-driven system that analyzes information about fuel usage, safety tracking, and operations assistance and enables software integration for vehicle telematics. For instance, Autobon from Chicago, USA, creates a connected sensing platform to identify driver performance such as break and steering aggressivity, fleet usage, lane deviation and provides assistance while on the road — making it easier to drive the truck.

Platoon Connect – Truck Platooning

Platooning for trucks enables vehicles to unite when they have the same destination. In this case, the following trucks adjust their speed to the first truck, thereby minimizing fuel consumption, encouraging team cooperation, and alerting the driver about cutting-in cars with the help of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication. German startup Platoon Connect, for example, allows to find matching trucks to act as platoon partners, organizes platoons in advance and real-time, and distributes financial benefits among all participants.

Acacus – Fleet Management System

Artificial Intelligence-powered fleet management systems provide significant data regarding fleet operation optimization, vehicle location, schedule optimization, and an alerting system, all gathered in one software. For instance, Acacus, a Dubai-based startup, incorporates and analyzes data on fleets with the help of AI-based in-built cameras equipped with sensors, and provides diagnostic data to track trucks remotely.

Idrive – Truck Telematics

Telematics monitors various means of information regarding fleet and individual vehicles such as driver identification, driver’s facial recognition, driver’s driving behaviors, and distance, among others. The US-based startup Idrive, for example, embeds distracted driver identification to detect those who use mobile phones while driving or are distracted for other reasons and could trigger accidents.
