New A.G.E. produces Clean Hydrogen
Founding Year: 2019
Location: Marlin, US
Partner for: Hydrogen Production, Clean Energy
New A.G.E. is a US-based startup that produces hydrogen from recycled fly ash. This diverts fly ash away from waste, reducing the leaching of harmful elements such as mercury, sulfur, and arsenic into groundwater and air. The recycling process involves coal electrolysis and transforms coal into a clean-burning hydrogen compound, HydrocarbonPlus, at the mine site. Therefore, it enables coal power plants to extend the life of their facility, reduce operating, transportation, and environmental remediation costs, while also generating sustainable and clean hydrogen.
Celsius Energy advances Geothermal Energy
Founding Year: 2019
Location: Clamart, France
Partner for: Building Cooling System
French startup Celsius Energy utilizes geothermal energy for heating and air conditioning buildings. A heat transfer fluid circulates in a heat exchanger which is typically 200 meters deep. Then, a heat pump allows calories to be exchanged with the basement to supply them to the building in winter and extract them in summer. Generating heat and cold from the same system reduces the number of sensors and therefore the overall investment cost. This structure reduces the dependence on fossil fuels and the carbon footprint of buildings by utilizing a local renewable source of energy. Moreover, it optimizes the thermal use of the basement and, therefore, is suitable for both new and renovated buildings, even in dense urban areas.
Sitigrid develops a Renewable Energy Sharing Platform
Founding Year: 2019
Location: London, UK
Partner for: Energy Trading, Decentralized Energy Production
Sitigrid is a British startup that develops S-Chain, a renewable energy sharing platform. It uses blockchain to create an immutable record of all energy generation and consumption within a network. This enables peer-to-peer trading of surplus electricity on the open market through smart contracts and settlements. Sitigrid utilizes AI to optimize local trading for customers, incentivizing the shift to distributed renewable electricity generation. This, in turn, promotes sustainability, maximizes revenue for generators, and minimizes cost for consumers.
SunSights provides Solar Microgrids
Founding Year: 2019
Location: Anand, India
Partner for: Solar Microgrid, Hybrid Energy
Indian startup SunSights offers solar energy solutions for residential users and commercial places such as schools, hospitals, and factories, among others. Its portable microinverters convert a DC photovoltaic module into an AC output. The microinverters operate an individual maximum power point tracker (MPPT) for each panel. This ensures maximum performance from each panel without letting the shaded or dirty panels affect the rest of the system. Additionally, the startup’s internet of things (IoT)-led product, Universal Inverter Stick Logger, transmits data through to its cloud-based SunSights Live portal. This allows the users to remotely monitor and control solar generation, voltage parameters, power factors, and fault alerts, among others.
Ecolibri designs Hybrid Energy Systems
Founding Year: 2019
Location: Agrate Brianza, Italy
Partner for: Wind Power Generation, ACDC Energy System
Ecolibri is an Italian startup that designs hybrid energy systems. Its vertical axis wind turbines exploit the force of wind without actuators to correct the attitude of the blades. The turbines feature lithium batteries that store the energy produced and enable off-grid hybrid energy production. Additionally, the startup offers the ACDC Hybrid Solar AC System that runs directly on DC power from solar panels as well as on AC power, whenever required. Moreover, once the room temperature is optimal, the system utilizes variable refrigerant flow (VRF) technology. This automatically lowers its capacity and power consumption, leading to much more power savings than regular air conditioners.
